The Path of Moral Leadership

Change is the domain of all of us

Reflect on the change you wish to create in the world, and commit to one action to just start.

The change I wish to create: I want to be part of a shift towards a kinder, cleaner, less judgemental world.

One action to just start: Contact D.O.G to get involved with the dog-rescue community here in Georgia.

Redefine success

Examine your current definition of success, then redefine it for yourself and your vision for change.

My current definition looks something like this:

  • Make enough money to look after myself and my loved ones, now and into the future.
  • Be part of a community that is inclusive, diverse and joyful — where people help each other and build a positive future together.

Redefining it, I’d expand on the first point: generate enough value to share with those around me who are in need — to contribute in meaningful ways to the people who need it most.

Tim’s suggestion: drill into the detail of what success looks like until the vision is so well conceptualised that you can see a step-by-step path to it. As you start moving down that path, you’ll find it has a magnetic pull — for you, and for those who share a similar vision.

Share

Share a reflection on one of these questions — you don’t have to answer them all. Write it down, make a video, or create an image. Any medium works.

Someone I admire who is building a better world, and a quality I admire in them: Tim McInerny, integration lead for the NRC — thoughtful persistence.

Why moral leadership matters to me, and one challenge I’d change: I see plenty of challenges. Where I am now: rubbish collection outside the cities, homeless-dog populations, and impoverished communities. Where I’m from: a lack of positive political leadership. These issues call out for better leadership.

A leadership quality I’m proud of, and one I want to build: Empathy is a strength of mine, though one I could keep building. Persistence and positivity are qualities I want to cultivate.
